“Victoria” Coolkit neighbourhood groups are under the umbrella of their respective Neighbourhood Associations: Downtown, James Bay, South Jubilee, and Vic West. Groups begin with a series of three 3-hour workshops. A facilitator guides the group through activities and exercises designed to build towards group action. Throughout these workshops, the members expand their neighbourhood expertise and awareness of local climate causes, impacts, mitigation, and adaptation. There are many ways people are acting to mitigate and adapt to the climate emergency. Coolkit efforts are focused on the local sources of 50% of Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions: waste, buildings, and transport. These emissions can be brought down to net zero by local action and municipal policies.

The “Victoria” Coolkit is adapted from the UBC Coolkit* project, in consultation with Dr. Stephen Sheppard.
At the final workshop, participants identify the group’s action priorities. The next meeting is scheduled and the group takes it from there, under the neighbourhood association’s umbrella.
